Digital PR & link earning

Why it matters now

Mentions matter more as AI answers grow.

Google still uses links, and AI answers lean on brands the web talks about. Both are earned the same way: with stories worth covering.

Straight talk

What we will never promise you.

Plenty of agencies sell certainty they cannot deliver. Here is what the evidence says, and what we will not claim.

Packages of high-authority links

Buying or selling links that pass ranking credit is link spam under Google's policies. Any paid link must be marked as sponsored.

Press release distribution for SEO

Google lists links with optimized anchor text in widely distributed press releases as an example of link spam.

Guaranteed coverage in a named publication

Practitioners in BuzzStream's 2026 survey named earning coverage as their biggest challenge. Editors decide, not agencies.

Straight answers

Questions about digital PR.

Do links still matter for SEO?

Yes, though not as they once did. Google says it uses links to understand pages and to discover new ones, and PageRank is still one of its core ranking systems. A Google analyst has also said Google needs very few links to rank a page, so relevance and quality matter far more than volume.

How is digital PR different from traditional PR?

Traditional PR measures coverage. Digital PR also measures what the coverage does online: the links it earns, the brand mentions it creates, and the search and referral traffic that follows.

How much does a link cost?

We do not sell links, so we do not price them. For context, a 2026 survey of 518 SEO practitioners put the average acceptable price for one quality link at about $509, and 39% of PR professionals in another 2026 survey did not know their own cost per link. We report the cost of each campaign and what it earned.

What if a campaign gets no coverage?

It can happen, because editors decide. We reduce the risk by testing angles with journalists before building the full campaign, and by reusing the research in content, sales and social so the work keeps its value either way.
