Sound familiar?

Four reasons German websites lose customers.

Each one is common, measurable and fixable. Here is what goes wrong, and exactly what we do about it.

01The problem

Your website loses buyers on their phones

Plenty of buyers meet your business on a small screen first. A slow, cramped page sends them back to the results, and the next firm on the list gets the enquiry.

How we fix it

A fast website designed for the phone first

  • Mobile layouts designed before desktop, not squeezed down afterwards
  • Core Web Vitals targets written into the contract and tested before launch
  • One clear next step on every page: enquire, book or request a quote
02The problem

Buyers search, and a competitor shows up instead

German buyers compare suppliers on Google before they make contact. If you are missing from the first page, the map results or AI answers, they never reach your site, however good your work is.

87.84% of searches in Germany ran on Google in September 2026, across all devices Source: StatCounter Global Stats
How we fix it

Get found on Google, Maps and AI search

  • SEO for the terms your buyers actually type, in English and German
  • A complete Google Business Profile and local SEO for each city you serve
  • Google Ads that appear at the moment of search, judged on real enquiries
03The problem

Visitors read, then leave without enquiring

Traffic alone pays no invoices. A vague page, a long form or a reply that takes days lets a ready buyer drift to the next supplier.

How we fix it

Turn more visitors into enquiries

  • Pages that answer the questions buyers ask before they commit
  • Short forms that qualify leads without putting people off
  • Instant confirmation emails and lead alerts, so no enquiry sits unanswered
04The problem

One missing legal detail can cost you

German website rules are enforced by regulators and by competitors' lawyers through Abmahnung warning letters. An outdated Impressum, a pushy cookie banner or an inaccessible shop can each set one off.

How we fix it

German law built in, at no extra cost

  • Tested to WCAG 2.2 AA for the BFSG, with an accessibility statement ready for your review
  • Impressum and privacy pages that cite §5 DDG and current law, confirmed by you or your adviser
  • A §25 TDDDG consent banner where rejecting is as easy as accepting

Straight answers

Questions German businesses ask.

How much does a website cost in Germany?

With us, a website of up to five pages starts at €350, an online store at €750, and a bespoke site of 6 to 15 pages usually lands between €650 and €850. For comparison, Kopf & Stift's published pricing puts a typical five-to-seven-page company website at about €3,000 to €4,500. The calculator prices your exact scope, and we confirm one fixed price in euros, in writing.

What is included in the price?

Every site comes with mobile-first design, testing to WCAG 2.2 AA for the BFSG, Impressum and privacy pages set up for §5 DDG and the GDPR, a §25 TDDDG consent banner with Google Consent Mode v2, Core Web Vitals targets in the contract, GA4 and conversion tracking, on-page SEO foundations, and full ownership of your domain, code and content. Copywriting, extra language versions and features such as online booking are priced in the calculator.

Does the BFSG apply to our website?

It depends on what you offer and how large you are. Since 28 June 2025 the BFSG has covered many consumer-facing digital services, including online shops. Micro-enterprises providing services, with fewer than ten staff and turnover or balance sheet of €2 million or less, are exempt. Fines reach €100,000. We build every site to WCAG 2.2 AA regardless, so growing past the exemption never forces a rebuild.

What is an Abmahnung, and how do we avoid one?

An Abmahnung is a formal warning letter from a competitor, an association or their lawyer, usually demanding that you sign a cease-and-desist declaration and pay their costs. Every rule on this page can be the basis for one, and since August 2025 accessibility has been among them. We check each rule before launch and update your legal references when the law changes.

Do we need an Impressum if the site is in English?

Yes. The duty under §5 DDG follows the business, not the language of the page. On an English site we usually label the link 'Impressum (Legal notice)' so German and international visitors both find it, keep it one click from every page, and make sure it no longer cites the repealed TMG.

Should our website be in English, German or both?

If your buyers are international, English first is often right: Germany ranks fourth of 123 countries in the EF English Proficiency Index, and the cities we cover score from 618 in Nuremberg to 649 in Cologne. If you also sell to German consumers or public bodies, add German. We build bilingual sites with separate URLs and hreflang tags, so Google shows each visitor the right version.
