Sound familiar?

Four reasons Norwegian websites lose customers.

Each one is common, measurable and fixable. Here is what goes wrong, and exactly what we do about it.

01The problem

Most of your visitors arrive on a phone

Norwegian buyers check a supplier on the bus, at the cabin or from the sofa. If the page loads slowly, the menu is fiddly or the price is buried three taps deep, they go back to the results and choose the next name on the list.

51.5% of web page views in Norway came from mobile phones in September 2026, ahead of desktops on 46.5% Source: StatCounter Global Stats
How we fix it

Pages built for the phone first

  • Each layout designed at phone width, then widened for desktop
  • Core Web Vitals targets written into the contract and measured on mid-range handsets before launch
  • Tap-to-call, directions and the enquiry form always within reach of a thumb
02The problem

Buyers search in Norwegian and find someone else

Almost every search in Norway runs on Google, and more of the answers now appear in the map pack or an AI summary before anyone clicks. A site with thin Norwegian pages, or none at all, rarely shows up for the words local buyers type.

89.13% of searches in Norway ran on Google in September 2026, with Bing a distant second on 6.38% Source: StatCounter Global Stats
How we fix it

Found on Google, Maps and AI search, in Norwegian

  • Keyword research in Norwegian for the services and places you actually cover
  • A Google Business Profile that matches your site, with every review answered
  • Plain, well-sourced pages that AI search tools can quote, and Google Ads while rankings build
03The problem

Customers want to book or buy, and your site only says "contact us"

Norwegian firms take orders and bookings online far more often than the European average. A visitor who is ready to act and finds only an email address and an opening-hours list will often finish the job with a competitor who lets them do it on the spot.

38.3% of Norwegian firms with 10 or more staff take orders, reservations or bookings on their website, against 22.5% across the EU (2025) Source: Eurostat, isoc_ciweb 2025
How we fix it

Let ready buyers finish online

  • Online booking, instant quote requests or a full Shopify or WooCommerce store, whichever your customers expect
  • Vipps or card payments wherever your booking or shop platform supports them
  • Instant confirmations and lead alerts, so no request waits until the next morning
04The problem

Universal design and cookie rules now reach private firms

Norway's equality law requires private businesses, not only public bodies, to make the main parts of their websites universally designed. Since 1 January 2025 the Electronic Communications Act has also demanded cookie consent to the GDPR standard, so browser settings no longer count as a yes.

How we fix it

Universal design and consent, built in

  • Every page checked against the WCAG 2.0 criteria the regulation names, and tested to WCAG 2.2 AA as our own standard
  • A consent banner with an equally easy Reject button, nothing pre-ticked and no tracking before a choice is made
  • Company name, address, email and organisation number shown as the E-commerce Act requires

Straight answers

Questions Norwegian businesses ask.

How much does a website cost in Norway?

With us, a website of up to five pages starts at NOK 4,250, an online store at NOK 8,500, and a bespoke 6 to 15 page site usually costs NOK 7,500 to NOK 9,500, paid once. For comparison, Smartbyrå advertises a subscription business site with a web shop at NOK 799 a month plus VAT, which adds up to NOK 28,764 over three years. Price your scope in the calculator and we confirm a fixed figure in Norwegian kroner, in writing.

What is included in the price?

Every site includes a phone-first design, checks against the WCAG 2.0 criteria in Norway's ICT regulation plus testing to WCAG 2.2 AA, a cookie banner built for § 3-15 of the Electronic Communications Act, a privacy notice for the GDPR, your company details as the E-commerce Act requires, Core Web Vitals targets, GA4 and enquiry tracking, on-page SEO, and full ownership of the domain, code and content. Copywriting, extra languages and features such as booking are priced in the calculator.

Will my site be in Norwegian?

Yes. We build client sites in Norwegian and English, in Bokmål by default and in Nynorsk where your customers expect it. All project communication with you is in written English: Norway ranks 5th of 123 countries on EF's English Proficiency Index, so most owners are comfortable reviewing briefs and staging notes in English while their customers read the site in Norwegian.

Does the universal design law apply to a small business?

Usually, yes. Section 18 of the Equality and Anti-Discrimination Act covers private as well as public undertakings and sets no minimum number of employees. Size and cost are weighed only when deciding whether a change would be a disproportionate burden. The ICT regulation then names WCAG 2.0 levels A and AA, minus three audio and video criteria, and the Digitalisation Agency can order fixes backed by coercive fines. We build to that standard on every Norwegian site.

Do I need a new cookie banner after the 2025 law change?

If your banner relied on browser settings or on visitors simply carrying on, yes. Section 3-15 of the Electronic Communications Act has required consent to the GDPR standard since 1 January 2025, and only strictly necessary cookies are exempt. Datatilsynet says refusing must be as easy as accepting. We replace the banner, hold analytics and ads until a visitor chooses, and connect Google Consent Mode v2.

Do you have a Norwegian office?

No. We have no office in Norway and do not pretend to: we work remotely with Norwegian businesses, in writing. You send the brief online, get a written proposal with a fixed price in kroner, follow the work on a shared project board and review a staging link every week until launch.
