Four reasons Canadian websites lose customers.

Each one is common, measurable and fixable. Here is what goes wrong, and exactly what we do about it.

01The problem

Your site loses buyers on their phones

Canadian buyers check suppliers on a phone between jobs, on transit or from the truck. A page that loads slowly or hides the next step sends them back to the results, and the next name on the list gets the inquiry.

48% of sites met all of Google's Core Web Vitals on phones in July 2025, against 56% on desktop Source: HTTP Archive Web Almanac 2025
How we fix it

A quick, phone-first site with the next step in reach

  • Designed for small screens first, then scaled up for desktop
  • Core Web Vitals targets written into your contract and checked before launch
  • Click-to-call, directions and a short quote form on every key page
02The problem

Buyers search, and find a competitor first

Canadians look for suppliers on Google, on Maps and, more and more, in AI assistants. If your business is missing, thin or inconsistent in any of them, the inquiry goes to whoever is easier to find.

46% of Canadians used a generative AI tool in the past year, up from 16% in 2024, and search was the most common use Source: CIRA, Canadian Internet Trends 2026
How we fix it

Show up in Google, Bing, Maps and AI answers

  • SEO for the searches your buyers type, in English and in French where you need it
  • Google Business Profile and local pages for each city you serve
  • Bing Webmaster Tools set up too, since Bing handles about one Canadian search in ten
03The problem

Traffic arrives, but the inquiries do not

Visitors leave when a page cannot answer their question, the form wants too much, or the reply takes two days. Most of those leaks can be fixed on the site itself, without buying more traffic.

How we fix it

Turn more visits into qualified inquiries

  • Pages that answer price, timing and proof before the buyer has to ask
  • Short forms with consent wording that meets CASL
  • Instant alerts and auto-replies, so every lead hears back fast
04The problem

Provincial rules can turn a website into a liability

Quebec expects commercial websites in French and enforces its own privacy law, Law 25. Ontario sets accessibility duties under AODA, and CASL governs the emails your forms lead to. A site built without them can cost far more than it saved.

  • French pages available on terms at least as favourable as the English, where Quebec is in scope

Straight answers

Questions Canadian businesses ask.

How much does a website cost in Canada?

With us, a website of up to five pages starts at C$500, an online store at C$1,000, and a bespoke 6 to 15 page site usually lands between C$900 and C$1,100. For context, Shift8's 2026 Toronto pricing guide puts a 1 to 5 page brochure site at $3,000 to $7,500. The calculator prices your exact scope, and we confirm a fixed price in Canadian dollars, in writing.

What is included in the price?

Every site comes with phone-first design, accessibility tested to WCAG 2.2 AA (which builds on the WCAG 2.0 AA level Ontario's AODA sets), Core Web Vitals targets in the contract, consent and privacy setup for PIPEDA and Quebec's Law 25, CASL-ready sign-up forms, GA4 and conversion tracking, and on-page SEO. You own the domain, code and content. A French version, copywriting and features such as online booking are priced in the calculator.

Does my website need a French version?

If you do business in Quebec, yes. The Charter of the French Language requires commercial publications, websites included, to be in French, and an English version may only be offered if the French one is available on terms at least as favourable. Fines for businesses run from C$3,000 to C$30,000 per offence. Outside Quebec it is a choice, and often a sound one if you sell nationally. We build both versions together so neither reads like an afterthought.

Does AODA apply to a business website?

In Ontario it does once you reach 50 employees: your public website must meet WCAG 2.0 AA, a duty in force since January 1, 2021. From 20 employees you must also file an accessibility compliance report by December 31, 2026. We build to WCAG 2.2 AA by default, a newer version of the same guidelines that builds on the Ontario standard.

What does Bill C-36 mean for my website?

Bill C-36 was tabled on June 15, 2026 and would replace Part 1 of PIPEDA if Parliament passes it. Its proposed penalties reach $10 million or 3% of global revenue, whichever is greater. PIPEDA applies until then, so we build to it today and keep data collection lean enough to meet stricter rules without a rebuild.

Do Canadian sites need to rank in Bing as well as Google?

It is worth the effort. Google handles 85.3% of Canadian searches, but Bing's 10.06% share is roughly one search in ten. When we launch or redesign a site we verify it in both Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools, redirect every URL that earns traffic, and watch both for the first month.
